About Microneedling

Microneedling performed at The Face & Body Center is a highly effective skin treatment recommended by our board-certified plastic surgeons. This noninvasive procedure works by allowing tiny needles to lightly puncture the skin. This triggers the body's natural healing process, which results in greater collagen production and improved skin elasticity for an overall clearer, smoother complexion. We often perform microneedling for our Flowood, MS patients who are experiencing acne, scarring, signs of aging, pigmentation issues, and other skin irregularities. If you would like to learn more about this innovative technology and its benefits, then we invite you to schedule a consultation at our office and find out if you're a candidate.

Best Candidates

You will be a good candidate for microneedling if you experience some or all of the following:

  • Uneven skin tone
  • Redness or hyperpigmentation
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Skin laxity
  • Sun damage and/or sun spots
  • Rough texture

Awesome Experince - After visiting just about every Surgeon in MS and LA, I saw Dr. Davidson, I knew right then he was my pick. In October 2016 I went in to the office and he drained my 450 each breast saline implants. No pain so simple, sent me home and said come back in 6 weeks. Mind you I still had the bags in. Thought this would be hard really never knew they were there. I had some pre-cancerous spots...

What to Expect

Before your treatment, your skin will be cleansed and a topical numbing agent will be applied. One of our team members will pass the MesoPen® microneedling device over the desired areas such as the face, neck, or chest area, where tiny holes will be created on the surface of the skin to ignite collagen production. The device is able to work in three different directions: vertically, horizontally, and in small circular patterns over the entire face for a customized treatment. There may be some discomfort, but it should be minimal. You can expect to see some redness similar to a sunburn on the treated areas for up to a few days after your session. However, there is no downtime associated with microneedling.

Anticipated Results

You will notice some improvement right after the procedure, but it will generally take a couple of weeks to see marked improvement in your tone, texture, and overall complexion. You should notice fewer blemishes, lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation issues. You can enjoy your results for up to six months, and then it is recommended to maintain follow-up sessions to preserve your look. The number of sessions needed to produce your desired results will vary based on your skin's condition, but 2 – 3 treatments are generally recommended.

What exactly is microneedling?
Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment to tighten and rejuvenate your skin. Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps keep your skin smooth, supple, and firm. As you get older, your natural supply of collagen is reduced and your skin gets thin and loses elasticity. Microneedling causes tiny skin wounds. These micro-injuries cause your skin to generate new skin cell growth and increase collagen production. After a short recovery period, your complexion is healthier, firmer, and brighter.
How many treatments are recommended for optimal results?
Most patients receive 3 – 6 treatments to see their best results. However, the number of sessions you need will depend on the condition of your skin and your goals. Microneedling can be performed every 4 – 6 weeks. During your consultation, your aesthetician will estimate how many treatments you will need based on your skin and goals. Once your skin goals are reached, The Face & Body Center recommends getting maintenance treatments about twice a year.
Is microneedling safe for everyone?
For the most part, microneedling is appropriate for all skin tones and types. Since the skin injuries created are so small, there are rarely side effects afterward. Microneedling can be performed on most skin areas, including the face, neck, arms, chest, thighs, and calves. Microneedling isn't recommended if you've been on Accutane within the last 2 – 3 months, or if you have an open wound, the herpes simplex virus, or an active skin infection. Additionally, you may not be a candidate for microneedling if you are nursing, pregnant, or undergoing radiation therapy.
